We’re a trusted adviser across the industry from super-majors to large independents, AIM-listed companies and SMEs in both the upstream Exploration & Production (E&P) arena and the service sector.

Our Oil and Gas team is one of the most respected in private practice. Specialist lawyers provide cutting edge advice on all Exploration and Production activities, as well as on all aspects of the law affecting Oil & Gas service companies in their day-to-day activities.

As senior sector specialists, it's important to us that we're not simply providing legal insight. From petroleum licensing, joint ventures, development projects, unitisations and oil and gas production, through to asset reorganisations, finance, share and asset acquisitions and disposals (including farm-ins and farm outs) we work hard to provide hard hitting commercially focused direction. Our practice encompasses onshore and offshore conventional E&P, unconventional E&P, LNG, gas storage and carbon capture and storage.

We make it our business to think innovatively and respond to your needs. The portability of English Law and of the North Sea E&P model, built on many years of experience, means that our advice travels well and we routinely operate in multiple jurisdictions with a particular strategic focus in Africa. Our experience and contacts on the ground help you to navigate a path through local legal, regulatory and policy hurdles, including fiscal terms and political risk.

In the services sector, we provide the full range of legal services from contract drafting and review to regulatory, health and safety, employment and intellectual property advice amongst many other disciplines. We have detailed knowledge of standard contracts, such as LOGIC and FIDIC, and the key risks for contractors working offshore and onshore. We advise internationally, as well as nationally, on a broad spectrum of matters such as providing reviews of foreign regulatory regimes or advising on overseas master services agreements.

A number of our team have worked as in-house counsel for major companies, some at senior management level and, as such, we bring practical experience and commercial acumen to our advice.  All senior team members belong to key industry bodies, including the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and the International Bar Association (IBA).

But, more importantly, we understand that you want a legal team you can trust and that can grow with you, wherever you’re headed. In fact, we like nothing better than when our clients tell us we’re an extension of their commercial and in-house legal teams - that we’ve added real value.

"They provide excellent client service and commerciality."

"They know us well and they understand our assets. We always get a very quick response, and for transactional matters they're good at coming in and thrashing out the important stuff."

Chambers 2017

“Very high level of expertise” and that the lawyers are “extremely easy to work with”... “They are always at the top of our list.”
