Examples of work

We advised The Crown Estate on an intervention in a Supreme Court case [Loose v Lynn Shellfish ([2016] UKSC 14)] that had relevance around the country for determining how the boundaries between public and private fishing rights are assessed. As a Supreme Court case, the matter was highly significant, both in terms of the general law and for the client. A decision favourable to our client was handed down by the Supreme Court in April 2016. Press coverage can be found here.

We successfully acted for B&Q in connection with a dispute over rental terms on a new lease, which went to trial in 2016 [Britel Fund v B&Q – unreported]. The outcome was extremely favourable for the client in terms of the low rental set, and has been widely commented on  in the property press.

We acted on behalf of a national property development company in a dispute relating to the validity of their exercise of an option to purchase 47 acres of prime development land. The landowner had argued that the option had not been validly triggered, but eventually conceded - shortly prior to the trial in the High Court, Chancery Division - that the option had been validly exercised and the land has now been purchased by our client for £5.85m.

We are appointed by Three Rivers District Council to deal with the South Oxhey regeneration in north London; a £ multi-million project which is likely to run until about 2019.

The team is dealing with numerous commercial landlord and tenant issues, involving service of 100+ notices.

We act as sole UK legal services provider to Airwave Solutions Limited which provides the emergency services communications network across the country. We deal with all contentious matters including site terminations, lease renewals, disputes regarding rent reviews, site upgrades, site shares with other providers and a range of further matters.
