In an industry that moves at lightening pace, we’re proud of the long-standing relationships we have with many of our clients.

We work hard to make sure it’s easy for you to do business. Building tailored legal teams with expertise across the firm, many of our clients say we’re like an extension of their in-house team. It’s the greatest compliment we could receive.

We understand you’re looking for legal experts that know about the work you’re doing, the pace of change and the need for innovative, strategic solutions. We’re one of the few practices that combine these with deep telecom regulatory understanding, offering practical solutions backed up with a breadth of technology experience.

Our legal specialists are known for delivering clear, commercial solutions that respond to the strategic needs of converged IT, telecom and media sectors. We anticipate change so as to apply the law at the best, practical level, across the wider retail and energy sectors. We help you to take advantage of evolving technologies and the opportunities they present.

We’re confident in our ability to add real value to large project technology infrastructure rollouts or transformations and also those transactions where a government interface or a parallel regulatory strategy is required.

What matters most, however, is that you get a client experience that can’t be beaten. We work hard to ask the right questions so that we can get you the right answers. That’s why new entrants of all sizes are choosing to work with us over City firms. Our holistic approach, which starts with listening hard to your commercial objectives, demonstrates you can trust us from the outset. Knowing you have the right people for the job, standing alongside you.

Examples of work

  • An offshore communications network - We acted for the UK subsidiary of a global, offshore communications network in its acquisition of the entire issued share capital of another offshore communications network and the fibre optic cable, another company. Our client, which is owned by funds managed by a leading private equity provider, operates a similar network. We provided all legal advice and services. It was a significant client win and a deal which involved cross office working and show cased our sector and specialist expertise: telecommunications, oil and gas, corporate, Scottish real estate, regulatory and competition law.
  • A major organisation with telecoms arm - We reviewed the telecom team’s marketing and other documentation to ensure compliance with the telecom regulatory requirements set by Ofcom and PhonePayPlus and also consumer legislation. This work spans the entire telecom offering: broadband, fixed and the new mobile Pay as you go offering. We reviewed documents within 24 hours of a request and provided advice on pricing, numbering and other telecom regulatory matters in a format which ensures the telecom business team can build in the advice immediately to achieve the product launch dates etc. This required the advice to be extremely simple and pragmatic and with an appropriate understanding and guidance on risk ratings.
  • A global mobile communications company - We advise, on a rolling basis, on the commercial and regulatory aspects of this global mobile communications company’s mobile payments business. These instructions include advising and attending meetings with regulators and this year we have advised on the contract with Google for carrier billing payments when customers purchase items from Google Play. We also advise on broader premium rate regulatory and contractual issues and we are monitoring the progress of the draft payment services directive and the exceptions for telecom operators. We believe we are one of a limited number of practices that understand how premium rate and financial services regulation dovetail.
  • A railway Infrastructure company - The commercial team advised on the commercial and telecom regulatory arrangements for the provision and use by High Speed 1 of the GSM-R safety railway communications spectrum in the UK. This matter involved complex, technical integration issues and the team worked closely with the client to provide a tailored solution.
